Jacques Kallis will play for South Africa, Jacab Oram and Chris Martin will miss their place in the New Zealand side for Friday’s Twenty20 international between the two sides in Johannesburg.
Kallis, the leading run-scorer in tests and one-day internationals, was controversially omitted from the South African squad for the Twenty20 World Cup, hosted by South Africa in September.”Jacques will play tomorrow,” Grame Smith said when asked about kallis at a press conference ahead of the match on Thursday. He said Shaun Pollock, their leading wicket-taker who sat out the two tests against New Zealand, will also feature in the starting XI.
On the other side of the camp Jacob Oram and Chris Martin have been ruled out of the match. They are being preserved for the upcoming three-match one-day series which begins on Sunday in Durban.
Oram missed the second Test with a hamstring strain and Martin is still struggling after picking up a stomach bug during the match at Centurion Park. ” The one-day internationals are the most important games ahead, so hopefully Jacob will be able to play in those; It’s a chance for us to redeem ourselves. We’ve taken solace in the fact that we’ve been pretty good operators in twenty20 and one-day cricket over the last few
years.” said Danniel Vettori the Black Caps captain.
