Sachin Tendulkar

Former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri supported fellow mumbaikar Sachin Tendulkar for the captaincy of the National Test squad.

Shastri feels that Sachin is a worthy contender for the top job. He said that “Tendulkar is the right choice” as he commands tremendous respect from his colleagues.  “He may not be a natural leader but, unlike when he previously led the country, he now has many experienced players around him,” he said.

Talking about Dhoni’s contention for the captaincy he said “To be a wicketkeeper in a Test match, concentrating every ball over a period of five days is not easy. If he is given the responsibility of captaining the team as well, it will be a heavy burden on him.”

The post has been vacant ever since Rahul Dravid announced his resignation after India’s successful tour of England in August this year stirring hornets nest in the cricketing circles. Rahul Dravid who recently lost his place in the ODI squad for the first 2 ODIs of the upcoming Indo-Pak series has decided to get to the basics. He has rejoined the Karnataka ranji team for the Ranji Trophy Super League match against Mumbai.
