Sachin Can’t buy stake in Mumbai team : BCCI

November 18, 2007   •   Indian Premier League, News

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) made it clear that no player contracted to play in its Indian Premier League (IPL) can buy a stake in the teams. This clarification was issued following the reports in the media that Sachin Tendulkar would be joining hands with the Future Group owners to buy the franchise rights of the Mumbai IPL team.

IPL Governing Council member Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying “He is playing, so where the question of buying a team comes from? When someone is playing, how can he buy a team?”. Similar views were expressed by BCCI Joint Secretary MP Pandove. But The BCCI Vice president Lalit Modi declined to comment on any issues.
