Pakistan batsman Taufiq Umar insists he joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL) for the love of the game and not to defy the Pakistani Cricket Board. Speaking to a daily Umar said “I am a cricketer and love to play cricket wherever I get the opportunity. Cricketers should not be stopped from playing cricket. It is not just about the ICL. I am going to play in county cricket in April next year. It is about playing cricket and whenever I get a right opportunity I will grab it. Be it for the ICL
or any other organization”.
He further added “Playing for Pakistan has always been my priority. I am not here to defy the board.” Umar last played for Pakistan in August 2006. Umar has played 25 Tests and 19 one-day internationals for Pakistan and has an average nearing 40 in the longer version of the game. Taufiq Umar is part of the Delhi Jets team in the Indian Cricket League (ICL).
