Lara is one of 30 international players due to play in the ICL and has called for recognition of the ICL Twenty20 league which is due to begin next week in India. As it is aware that the BCCI has refused to acknowledge the Indian Cricket League and has threatened players who would play for the ICL with lengthy bans.

Lara quoting to the press has said “I am looking forward to playing in the league, I would love to play alongside the young players from India who may not have had the opportunity to play with me and other international players. Twenty20 a very exciting game and is fun. It has given the authorities a chance to take the game to places not familiar with cricket.”

“The reaction was expected but still I was disappointed,” said Lara, who has signed up to play in the league. The intentions are honourable and I hope people will understand what this league is all about and accept it.”
