Nathan Astle, the kiwi master batsman has rubbished the former Australian coach John Buchanan’s suggestion to make world cricket franchise-based. He told “I played for New Zealand with pride and passion. One can play county cricket in England and also represent teams in competitions like the ICL’s T20 in India, but not for another country,”.
Astle will play for the Mumbai Champs team in the six-team Twenty20 (T20) format inaugural season of the Indian Cricket League (ICL). He has signed a two-year deal with ICL.
Buchanan recently suggested the ICC to convert world cricket into a franchise-based system, by doing so the players will have the liberty to pick the country they want to represent in order to make international cricket more competitive.
