warne-muralitharanThe greatest spinners of all time Shane Warne and Muthiah Muralitharan have been honoured in a way many would dream of. On the lines of Border-Gavaskar Trophy [Indo Aussie Test Series], Chappell-Hadlee Trophy [Kiwis Vs Kangaroos ODI Series] The Australia Vs Srilanka test rivallry has been cristined as Warne-Murali Trophy. The first Warne-Murali Series is all set to begin on 8th November at Brisbane.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) put forward the idea to name the Sri Lanka-Australia series after spin greats Warne and Muralitharan. SLC secretary K. Mathivanan Said that Cricket Australia’s (CA) response to the proposal has been positive. “We have decided to name the series as the Warne-Murali Trophy,” Mathivanan said, adding steps are being taken to start it with the forthcoming two-Test series next week.

Warne and Murali are the leading wicket takers in the longest version of the game with 708 and 700 test scalps respectively. Murali would be looking to over-take Warne’s record as the Highest wicket takers in test cricket that too in Warne’s back yard.

Murali would be the Frist person to play a competitive roll in a series thats already named after himself, That itself is quite an achivement
